Mimicry, Ichneumonid Wasp
Ichneumonid wasp, a parasitoid, in the larval stage, of the caterpillars of lepidoptera.
Length, excluding antennae, 14.5mm
A black and yellow pattern is a standard aposematic combination in nature. Uncertain as to whether this insect is actually dangerous/unpalatable to potential predators (Mullerian Mimicry) or whether it is harmless and thus exhibiting Batesian Mimicry. Either way, it's a pretty insect.
D2Xs + 9cm extension + MF 105mm Micro Nikkor at slight extension, f8 on lens, single diffused SB800 flash; stack of 42 images @ 0.2mm with Helicon Focus 4.1
EDIT: title changed
