Sunset Moth

Post by Smokedaddy »

After seeing all the wonderful Sunset Moth images here I thought I'd give it a try. So this is my first attempt. These were shot with my Nikon MM-11 with a Nikon toolmakers measurescope lens (or objective, not sure of the proper nomenclature) using their 10x and 3x. I haven't a clue what the DOF is with these lenses so if anyone knows please chime in.

Below is the 3x lens ...

Below is the same image but not a 100% crop.

Below is a different area.

Hard to believe it took you so long to play arouond with this moth.

The 10X has a NA of 0.20. The DOF is around 10-12 microns.

The 3X has an NA of 0.09. The DOF is around 60 microns.

Thanks Charles. I agree. I have way to many irons in the fire.

Very nice! These moth scales are a lot of fun to image, and produce rewarding outcomes.
