I am currently looking into the feasibility of building a rig to enable photographs of insects in flight.
I appreciate Cognisys have such a set-up - but at £3000 way out of my budget.
I believe I could build the control unit, laser and infra-red cross beams but the electromagnetic shutter might be a more difficult thing for me.
I'd appreciate any help, information, advice if anyone else is interested or has already built such a set-up.
With the forthcoming launch of new sensors from Sony, Nikon and Canon the other question is will the new sensors actually do away with shutter lag?

I got started by making one out of a computer hard-drive. It opened in 12 ms, however not as fast as the one Frans made. https://www.flickr.com/photos/13084997@ ... 697012197/
