Very nice.
Google states, that Chrysocolla looks :

So, what is that white stuff ?
I'm not familiar with minerals ...

Good catch Saul..there is a lot of variability in the appearance/color of some minerals and Chrysocolla is just a guess here. I wasn't given that information with the specimen and I don't have a locality either. Perhaps someone else will recognize this material :)

Excellent do you have a local for the specimen.

One of the things which I follow on Tumblr is mineral photographs.

These are excellent, especially knowing the difficulty I've had photographing highly reflective subjects. The lighting must be very difficult.

Thanks all..lighting is a constant challenge for me at least. Some colorful, ultra-reflective minerals seem to defy all attempts to get a good stack. Diffusion has it's limitations. I may need to test using polarizers as Lou Jost has nicely described.

Sorry, no locality information about this specimen.

Beautiful image Geopressure! The light blue material could be Chrysocolla or Hemimorphite, appears to have a light coating of drusy quartz over it.

I have the same struggles as you with reflections, and have had some success with using reflected, diffused light instead of direct diffused. Curious to learn more about polarization techniques and would appreciate if you could share any pointers.

Thanks Scarodactyl and GreenSugar!

As yet I have no polarization pointers to share for minerals, but hope to do some testing soon.
