I'm hoping there's a story behind this interesting geometry.

Is the large diameter one a support wire?

If so, what made it curl up that way? And what's with the break in it?

The "hoop" suspends the filament to center it in the glass envelope. This is from a long lamp for a work light. The breaks in the hoop probably occurred when I smashed the envelope, which I do by wrapping the bulb or vacuum tube in a paper towel and then putting pressure on it in bench vice until it shatters.

I just realized this is the point at which the lamp may have blown.
