Haematococcus pluvialis

Hello All!
After reading many threads in this great forum I decided to join in and present some of my images.

The first is Haematococcus found in small pool of rainwater.
The shots are taken with Nikon 100x CF Plan objective BF and DIC (bottom)

I use microscope "Biolar" with DIC accessory, both produced by polish manufacturer PZO. I replaced original objectives with Nikon Plan. The photos and movies are made by compact camera Panasonic Lumix held at eyepiece by simple bracket.

Wonderful video. I had no idea you could do DIC video, although I never thought about it. The videos are great, amazing detail.

Chris,

Wonderful quality DIC. Often when different manufacturers components are mixed, DIC doe not work well. In this case it quite excellent!

I can confirm that Nikon objectives work very well with PZO DIC module.

Impressive work with a Point and shoot!

Have you done much in the way of post processing on these? They look a bit flat on my screen, I reckon a little levels/curves work they could really pop!

Actually I did not to much with post processing, only slight sharpening but I'm curious of your work result.

Hmm, I think I might be seeing a colour space issue here somewhere, when I downloaded your image to have a quick play in PS I found in PS it 'pops' quite nicely, however viewed on the site in Chrome it looks decidedly dull by comparison.

I suspect it's just Chrome not playing nicely, as I say in PS the shot looks really nice, I adjusted the levels/curves very slightly but it was not at all certain my changes improved things.

Off to google Chrome colour space...

It's very pleasant to see anybody else from Poland on this forum.
Your photographs, especially DIC ones, are beautiful. I can see that mixture of various brands of optics haven't spoiled the result. I thought to buy the PZO DIC equipment but it is very expensive (2200 PLN at Allegro = ca 750 $). Besides I was wonder if this DIC will work correctly with my Olympus plan achromats and plan apochromats.
By the way, what part of Poland are you from ?

Nice to see you, too

I highly recommend PZO DIC equipment (sometimes you can find it much cheaper). It works with simple achromats but with Plan Nikon, the picture is more clear and contrasted. I think you can have similar results with Olympus objectives.

Okay I'm definitely seeing a colour space issue here, when viewing your images in this thread in Chrome or Firefox they look fine but don't quite have the contrast I'd expect. Download the image and open in PS5 and it looks perfect.

Warning this is a large screenshot... Screenshot showing Firefox 4, Chrome latest version and PS5 views.

I'd like to establish if this is a browser issue, a forum issue or something else!

The darkfield image is quite striking but I truly love the DIC image. These are quite beautiful algae.
