Chilodonella (?)

Post by Charles Krebs »

One of my "mountain" samples really burst into life with bacteria, and then the ciliates that feed on them. Every drop collected off the waters surface contained a veritable feeding frenzy. I should know wht this is, but alas I am not sure... I think it is a Chilodonella of some type, but I'll leave it to the more knowledgeable folks to offer a more positive ID.
The prominent microtubular rods (nematodesmata) around the mouth are very clearly seen here.
