Coneflower

Post by NikonUser »

Image
Close-up of the disc florets of a Coneflower (Rudbeckia sp.).
The male florets are the brown anthers with yellow pollen grains; the female florets show 2 recurved red stigma.
I believe the red-topped spikes are bracts, one with each floret.
Distance between the tips of the vertical bracts on the left is 2 mm.

D2Xs + 12.5 cm bellows extension + 105mm MF Micro Nikkor at full extension; ISO 100, 1/250s @ f8 on lens, single SB800 flash; stack of 21 images @0.2mm, Helicon Focus 4.1.

Very good photo there! And Rudbeckia are great for attracting insects too!
