The more I look at it, the more I like it. The gradient shows off the near identical sides of the leaf in a different light, quite literally.

Great shot! That background is really appealing, it works well to bring out the detail in the leaf.
I like how it is just a little bit darker than the leaf on the left-hand side before it lightens up.
