Noted the setup from previous post. More than just good kit made these photos possible. Well Done, very nice action shots.

Thx John.
But Its easy. I am lucky to have a pond in my garden en the Darter uses this perch all day.
I flies off to catch insects and returns to the same perch all day long.
Manual focus, and wait until the darter returns from the hunt.
And wait, make many pic's.....

Very good!
One day, pandemic willing, I will buy an Olympus m 4/3 camera with 'Pro capture' that will make it easier to get pictures like these.

my GX80 has this feature "pro capture" . I tried it and it did not gave one decent picture. All blured pictures.
Edit I think I need to dig a bit deeper into the secrets of the "pre burst mode"

Re: Common darter (Sympetrum striolatum) in action
I expect its about shutter speed. As I understand it, there are settings that allow continuous focus while shooting in burst mode. But obviously I've never tried it. I suspect we need to learn from bird photographers about how to do this.

The shutterspeed, of course.
AF you do not need it slows down the reaction speed. Above pictures are made in MF
