40x LWD

Post by Harald »

Hi there good people,

Any recommendations for a good 40x objective LWD with RMS threads that doesn't cost an arm?
Kind Regards
Harald

Hello Harald,

Any constraints?

- minimum NA?
- minimum working distance?
- use with eyepiece or direct projection?
- finite or infinite tube length?
- use with or without cover glass?

Regards, Ichty

I am going to use it on a trinocular bio microscope from AmScope to photograph, so I guess direct projection

Was hoping to get 2mm WD.
NA not critical and finite I think.

I am not good in these terms.

Shall use it to photograph micro minerals
Kind Regards

Another important question- what size sensor?

I can't think of many options. I had a look at your website; your setup seems to work well with Nikon objectives.

There are a few 40 LWD and ELWD from Nikon with 210 mm tube length and without cover glass. Some have > 2 mm free working distance. That would require a 50 mm intermediate tube being added to your microscope.

Alternatively, a biological LWD objective with correction collar and the collar set to 0.

The MPLAN ELWD 40x 0.50 in particular has slightly more than 10 mm working distance, so illumination of the subject is easier.

I found my specimen relatively good (that was years before we all started stacking, though), but of course not at the level of Mitutoyo M Plan Apos. The 0.50 NA is the limiting factor, plus some CA, and DOF is of course minuscule. It is somewhat tolerant of shorter tube length (and with the latter it gives a lower magnification and slightly higher working distance).

The only test I can find is at http://savazzi.net/photography/photomacrolenses2.htm

Hi,
Thanks for your time and great tips.

I will check them out

It will be a FF sensor on my EOS 5D II

This is very interesting.
Edit: Found it on eBay for 305$
