Sorry, I have no information about serial numbers.

The BH-2 was introduced in 1980:
https://www.olympus-lifescience.com/en/technology/museum/micro/1980_01/

Newer BH-2 microscopes have a button on the side to set the lamp to a fixed brightness for photomicrography.

Older BH-2 microscopes do not have this.

The button is not shown in a December 1990 brochure.

It is shown in a March 1993 instruction manual.
