The usal test victims... a fly.(edit: + a moth)

Post by Yawns »

The night I finished my new frame for the gear I had a heart stroke (it's a popular trend among forum members these days).. it's like 6-7 weeks I left the hospital but I never felt in the mood to try it meanwhile.
Today I got the usual test victims.. a fly, because they are always at hand and easy to catch...

It's more than a year I don't do this kind of photographs...
so I experimented for the first time a few things .. micro 4/3 sensor, Nikon E 100mm as "tube" (not in this picture), electronic sensor, a baffled tube, lee diffuser sheets etc...

EDIT: the pictures looses definition when posted here (I never noticed that before...)

I've just now written a new explanation that addresses this issue. See "FAQ: Why do my images lose sharpness when posted?"

this metal case you built, just really nice and very envious, is this material something that can be bought commercially in raw form or kit?

In the USA.

amazing photos from it and your other setups.

thanks for sharing

hope you are doing better health wise.

It's Openbuilds V-Slot and it's American
https://openbuildspartstore.com/

.. but i bought the parts in the Portuguese dealer RatRig.com

I was checking and apparently the Openbuilds store only sell the bars in chunks of 25cm, 50 cm, 100 cm... RatRig does custom cuts.
"google" (Openbuilds Stores) and see if you find another more convenient.

here is the list of parts: for the HORIZONTAL frame .... I suppose it's the one you are talking about ... I did another one vertical... the list of parts is in anotherpost.)

a few questions,

the gantry kit is to move the camera and rail back and forth, how do you lock it into position?

the open build does not offer the pre tapped parts, so would have to do that my self, at least thy offer the tapping drill bit.

2 of the parts I can't find, the slot cover or the camera mount screws, will have to email them and check.

thanks a ton for this info and company info. Might be my winter project.
Kevin
