Amazing and lovely shot. It just doesn't look mechanically feasible. Imagine an engineer turning up with a design like that... :)

That's not fair. Unlike the trailer hitch, the petiol has to support the entire weight of the load being carrier around. :D I think the ant trumps the trailer hitch.
I'm in Canada! Isn't that weird?

Regarding the support of the abdomen - size matters! The universe will look quite different for an ant:
