Greetings! I'd like to share with you some confocal images of the trap (or bladder) of an aquatic carnivorous plant, Humped bladderwort (Utricularia gibba). Enjoy!

Magnification: 100x
Microscope: Zeiss confocal laser scanning microscope LSM 710.
Objective: 10x, NA 0.45
Laser lines: 405, 488, 562 nm.
Colors: blue and green - cellulose stained with Calcofluor white; red - autofluorescence of chloroplasts.

Laser scanning confocal is just great, the red Ferrari supermodel of light microscopy :lol: Great images, no more to say. Didn't I see that one of the second set won an award recently? :wink:

Thanks, Carlos. The traps were fixed in 2% formaldehyde/2% glutaraldehyde in pond water, stained with Calcofluor White, embedded in 6% agarose, sectioned with Vibratome @ 0.5 mm in 2 planes (frontal, sagital), mounted in slightly alkaline water.

Yes, LSCM is a powerful tool - but when it comes to output images I'm finding myself drawn to the aesthetics of the Nomarski DIC microscopy lately :)

It was a similar one - see below.
