A Barn Funnel Weaver full spider added Feb 14

Post by NikonUser »

Well, just part of it!
This is about the 4th spider to show up in my unheated garage this winter.
This male dead on the concrete - probably froze to death.
Not any other activity in the world of bugs and so mounted a pedipalp in glycerine. Complex structures which I hope to get a better handle on in the future.
Possibly a "Barn Funnel Weaver" Tegenaria domestica
10x CF N Plan Nikon on bellows, Zerene Stacker processing.

Lovely! I saw the first image, and I was thinking "stereo, I want stereo!", and then I scrolled down and saw it was already there. Ah, instant gratification. :D

Very nice (as always)!

Could you elaborate further regarding this technique and in which situations, apart from this subject, you find it to be applicable?

Thanks Rik; yes these things really do need stereo to appreciate their complexity.
Craig: I mentioned glycerine in case someone compared these images with Rik's:
http://www.photomacrography.net/forum/v ... t=pedipalp
his seem to be dry mounts
Glycerine is a standard mounting medium, easy to use as it is miscible with water and alcohol. Can be used for all subjects.
Lots of info in Micscape Magazine, simply search for glycerine mounting

Late question having just found this thread looking for clues about posing spiders: how was the whole spider mounted for the photos... also in glycerine?

Regards,
Martin

The spider was found dead and was completely relaxed (flexible). I simply spread it out on a sheet of plastic and photographed it on my vertical macro setup.
