A computational microscope called a DeepDOF can achieve DOF greater than 5x that of conventional microscopes while retaining its resolution, significantly reducing the time needed for image processing.
DeepDOF uses an optimized phase mask placed at the microscope aperture and a deep-learning-based algorithm that turns sensor data into high-resolution, large-DOF image.
