Pinned specimen orientator

Post by Barry »

In a previous thread http://www.photomacrography.net/forum/v ... php?t=8118 several types of specimen stages were discussed. I decided to produce a few of one type: the compact spherical one.

The steel disk is kept in place by the magnet placed in the base part. It makes an angle of 15 degrees in all directions. The plastic jig indicates where the centre of rotation is, to correctly mount the specimen. When that is done, the viewing angle of the specimen can be easily adjusted.
Disk diameter is 40mm. Fine for tiny insects but for my macrofossils a bit small I must admit...

Cheers,

Very nice, is the plastic part 3D printed?

Graham,

Indeed, the plastic jig is 3D "printed", or actually by SLS rapid prototyping.
Any geometry can be made with it.

Well I was pretty sure it was rapid prototyped but I'm not so good as to be able to recognise the technology by eye :)
