I use a homemade Arduino-based controller that generates the signal for the camera and flash (it also controls the stepper motor).

The shortest exposure time I can use with full electronic shutter and flash sync in between is 1/10 second.
So first the camera is triggered (with the exposure time 1/10 s).
Secondly, the flash is fired, but with a delay of about 1/20 s (approx. in the middle of the exposure time).
Actually, for this function you only need a relay that sends the signal for the flash with a delay.
