Zoom position: 24mm or 105mm ?

Post by Adalbert »

Hello everybody,
Does anybody know which zoom position is better for the flashing if the distance is very short and the subject extremely small?
e.g.
Image

Which position is more effective 24mm or 105mm ?

Thank you in advance.

All is about angles. At the distances shown at your image 50 to 105 will work better than a wide angle position. At 24mm position a big part of the flash power will illuminate outside your diffuser

This is why the Guide Number is higher for tele position with the same unit and power setting. You want to use the flash at reduced power both to have less battery draining and shorter actual exposure time

Hello Pau,
Yes, it sounds logical.
“You want to use the flash at reduced power both to have less battery draining and shorter actual exposure time”
Yes, exactly. Many thanks!
