Hi Johan,
I did establish that the collimators were originally for spotlight use, and already executed that experiment, leaving collimators and LSD out.
The bare LEDS have a wide emitting angle, probably 180° .
I do want to keep using collimators for optimum light efficiency, and ordered a couple of wide angle collimators of 90°.
That should give a wide enough beam to overlap the LED next to it.

EDIT: Johan, to illustrate I just re-ran your suggestion to take this snapshot. As you can see the light is everywhere, bouncing within the led holder.
I prefer it to be bundled, for light efficiency and maximum output, in a wide enough angle to overlap each circle.
