It seems that we may become colourblind but be unaware:

In there, somewhere, must be the effects that some kinds of cataracts (which I have) on making colours "colder".

Here's a site at which you can quickly evaluate your ability to distinguish subtle differences in hue:

My ancient eyes seem to be holding up so far!

I remember visiting a Claude Monet exhibition in Las Vegas that was set up to show this very phenomenon. You could see a progression of how he painted with more yellows and oranges (a cast) over time due to his progressive cataract disease. It was most striking!

Apparently, he finally consented to cataract surgery at the age of 82, and then his paintings reflected more blue, especially since he was now able to detect some UV light (his lens having been removed), which normal eye lenses filter out.

I have spoken with many patients who marvel at the acuity of color that 'returns' when their cataracts are removed.

This link shows examples of Monet's work before and after cataract surgery:

I missed out on a couple of blue shades and scored 23. Not bad for cataracts in both eyes!

Although one of my eyes sees everything with a distinct red cast (or is it the other eye seeing with a cyan cast :? ), both eyes working together scored a 12 - not bad for my just over the hill age group.
