Nice stack!

Very interesting. I wouldn't have considered using a zoom for this kind of work but it seems to have come out well! Am I right in assuming you used the zoom/diopter combo as you didn't have a prime to achieve that (lower) level of magnification?

Lauriek, most of my pictures are done with the following combo:Nikkor 70/300mmVR+DCR 250,or 6,12,24X Raynox .
That way, when zooming I can obtain from 0.68/1 to 7.8/1 magnification.
However,I rarely use the extreme possibility(300mm+24X) because the results are always bad.In my opinion the Nikkor 70/300VR is good for this purpose from 70 to 135mm.
With this combo the working distance (from subject to front lens) is around 4 inches.

Very nice lighting with barely noticeable halo artifact from focus stacking.

A small critique if I may. There seems to be banding in the background. I would suggest using a little blur tool in photoshop if the banding is actually artifact caused focus stacking.

There's also some moire pattern in the eyes. I suggest using a different sampling algorithm when you resize it.
