One of my favorite insects to look for when I visit Costa Rica and they are not just out in the rain forest. I found this rather large specimen in the town of Grecia`s central park area. Every town in Costa Rica has a central park area..tall old trees, lots of tropical flowers, usually a very old Catholic Church. This is a stack of 40 images with HF. The head is just over 2mm wide at the top.

I agree, I nearly mentioned that on my first post, but I've done this too many times myself to complain about someone else doing it!NikonUser wrote:...but for that missing tip of the right antenna
Personally with a limited range of lenses I sometimes find the subject just falls inbetween lenses (in terms of required magnification). Given the choice between a lower mag shot with the bugs head in the middle and whitespace around or a nice tight crop like this I'd always pick the latter!
Thank you all for the great comments. I was very happy with the way this one came out and it may have helped me get out of my photographic slump I have been in lately. Maybe it is the fact that they farm fungus that makes them look so strange
