Giant Silk Moth - Part 1

Post by Marcepstein »

These shots were taken with a Canon 1D Mark III and ef 180mm f3.5 L macro lens. The Giant silk moth (Antheraea polyphemus) has a fairly wide distribution in North America. These shots were taken in March so they might be starting to emerge. I missed the actual emerging from the chrysalis by several minutes but enjoyed seeing the moth unfold its wings and fly away. The males have the large plumose antennae. They dont feed after emerging and live less than a week. Thanks for looking.
