Spanish moss (Tillandsia usneoides) is actually an air plant (family Bromelliaceae) which is very common across the coastal plain of the southern US and beyond. I was curious about their flowers and found a few winter remnant capsules. The images were taken with a Canon 1DM4, ef 100mm f2.8 macro and/or the Canon MP-e65 macro lens.
I noticed when I sprinkled a little water on the plant the stems turned “photosynthesis” green. I understand the seeds are “dandelion-like” and plumose. I am not sure what the stalked structures are perhaps remnant parts of the pistil.
