A Western Yellowjacket (male) from a sweep last September. Specimen nose to butt 14mm. Dorsal view at 1x with Canon MPE 65mm on Canon 5D MK IV..
Twenty steps at 650µm.
Ratty face view at near 4.5x, 30 steps at 50µm.
Male genitalia, 7x with the addition of a 1.4 extender, Canon MPE 65mm at 5x on a Canon 5D MK IV. 46 steps at 45µm.

Nicely done! I guess the male genitalia tells the sex. Otherwise I don't know the difference.
There is some info that for yellowjackets, the markings on the face are quite variable, and they can maybe identify one another that way.
