Insects and such

Post by Ali195 »

Having only recently got into macro since Covid hit I've been slowly moving toward micro, a few recently.

Most are from my new rig I built over C-19
5X Mitutoyo Plan Apo Objective.
Novoflex tub with built in achromatic lens.
Adapter for Nikon Z6II
Two wooden sheets with anti-vibration pads inbetween.
Cheapo XYZ axis CNC trim is a life saver for tiny adjustments.
Cheapo Z extender bolted to top sheet of wood.
Some flashes.
WeMacro Rail

Others are using Laowa 100mm f2.8 2X Ultra Macro

I hope to get the 10x Mitutoyo this year.

You are a quick learner. Those are really nice. That is a very versatile lens. You might try some different backgrounds but the black is very effective.

Now that's something I've not got to yet learnt. How are folks switching it up when doing high magnification stuff, eg x5, 10...? Are you adding some white or coloured cards in near background, very close to the subject then extending the focus stack to that? Or maybe just adding a flash in the background so it picks up in the shots?

Nice work! What are the cheapo items used to do fine XYZ adjustments? I am especially interested in cheap things.

Google "XYZ 3-Axes Manual trim", depending on how long you can wait a Chineseium version can be had cheap.

And I keep the above on a Z Flex Tilt Tripod Head. I put two magnets on the Z and another couple on bottom of the xyz, like:

This little sweetie was running across our kitchen floor. Same rig as usual.
