Dead mosquito-like ?dipteran

Post by enricosavazzi »

Found dead and dried on a curtain in my living room. I am not actually sure what I am looking at. Possibly there are parasitic acari (the greenish warty blobs at the extreme left), plus I don't know what to do of the small ?legs/antennae pointing backwards between the eyes.

Chironomidae female laying on it's back. Those mystery legs would be the palps.

Aha! I did not realize it was upside-down. So the eyes are essentially on the ventral surface of the head, pointing downward.

The head is tipped forward/down on many species. See the Chironomidae - Winter Midge post I just made.
