Chaos Within Antique Glass

Post by J_Rogers »

Apart from coins, I have always enjoyed collecting old glass insulators. Trying to photograph them under high magnification is somewhat challenging since a lot of the cool stuff is simply too deep to get a clean stack. Here are just a few images.

90 image stack - this fragmented air bubble was relatively close to the surface.
Nikon d3300. Nikon MM10x objective. 1/50th second exposure with continuous lighting

Had some free time to take a few more photos of insulators. While not to the magnification extremes of the the first two, they still fit the theme. Not to mention they are a fascinating piece of history.

All of the following images are the same insulator. Only the magnification changes.

Micro-Nikkor 55mm f2.8 @ f4. Magnification = 0.75x

Micro-Nikkor 55mm f2.8 @ f4. Magnification = 0.75x

Micro-Nikkor 105mm VR f2.8 @ f4. Magnification = 1x
196 image stack (taken at an angle & overkill step size)
hemingray-embossing-crop.jpg
Reversed Micro-Nikkor 55mm f2.8 @ f4. Magnification = 2.9x
145 image stack. I added a scale bar for reference.

These images certainly bring back some memories of "life on the farm"!

Very clean images -- really nice lighting.
