Seussian Slime Mold

Post by Bob-O-Rama »

I found a patch of white "fluff" on a piece of firewood which turned out to be the dying gasp of a slime mold. Each one of the structures is perhaps 0.3mm. It turns out they secrete calcium carbonate which gives them this white, dusty appearance. The spores themselves are inside.

Excellent! And a friendly little Polyxenus sp. for good measure.
