Ecdyonurus torrentis (Mayfly)
Nymphs of Ecdyonurus torrentis are typically found in riffle areas of rivers and streams. They are usually found clinging to submerged plants and stones. E. torrentis feeds either by scraping periphyton from the substrate or by gathering fine particulate organic detritus from the sediment.
Mayflies are easier to determine if you have the larva and the male Imago. So I pick up maturity larvae and put it in a aquarium with current and air pump.
The subimago have a typical "Z line" in the wing. The best determination is made by the male genitals.
E. torrentis have one generation in a year. At my location the main flight time is April and May.

Re: Ecdyonurus torrentis (Mayfly)
Thank you very much Mark.
supplement to the fotos: title picture: Subimago (Male) on a mirror
second p.: Larva, here you see the flat style and the legs are like a spoiler (the first formel 1 car!!). The flowing water press the larva on the stone.
In the current the head looks every time again the water flow.
third p.: in transmitted light to see the fine structures and hairs.
fourth p.: Subimago (Female), the usual position is upside down, hanging under leaves, but for my eyes the upright position is better to view.
fifth p.: Imago (Male), the transformation from subimago to imago lengthened the first leg pair and the cerci (approx. 5 cm)
sixth p.: Genitals dorsal (from above)
seventh p.: Genitals ventral (bottom view)
