Great composition! Only suggestion would be to retouch the blue thread strands just to the right of the eyelet where (presumably) PMax has allowed the gold of the needle to 'bleed through'. There may be a similar color shift in part of the stray strand projecting up and to the left from the eyelet.

I prefer the first one. The higher brightness of the thread makes the interesting structure more clear, and the one long stray fiber sticking up left and above the eye makes a nice symmetry with similar fiber sticking down on the right.

By the way since a few days I have a new curved Monitor a Phillips 499P, 48" with 5120x1440 pixel, this makes retouching much more flexible ;-) and homeoffice also benefits from a better overview.
