Some little advancements on this silly project!
Today I've cut thin sections of the cornea, so to see the profile of ommatidia under microscope.
Here below the photo; insect is a medium size hoverfly, not sure which species.
The inner soft tissues of the eye (crystalline, rhabdom etc) are removed, only the hard chitinous lenses and the hairs are left
The inner surface of the lens looks concave!
The microscope lenses are dirty!
