Here's the proposal. I shot this stack with a 105 macro lens, and cropped to show various parts. Let me know if you can identify it from this one; if not, looser crops will be added. I don't think this will take long, and perhaps it will be entertaining.

Re: A Hairy Thing
Ah, no takers yet for the identification speculation. Here's a much wider view to perhaps make it easier.

Related in a very general way, but not an Assassin.

Also worth considering: you may have been misled a bit. Intentionally.

Cicada nymph.
In the first picture, clearly an insect leg. The presence of a single tarsal claw says 'juvenile -- something', as various insect nymphs have feet like that.

Mark, you are very close. But not quite the identification I'm looking for.

Re: A Hairy Thing
No, Mark, it isn't that.
But it was.
This is actually the exuviae that was left behind; Elvis has left the building.
I was fascinated by the detail of the discarded exoskeleton, and thought it might be fun to try to sell it as the real thing, which you easily identified.
Here is the uncropped image of the post, along with a stereo attempt. Following that, an outdoors image of the earlier transition of one of his relatives, and a shot of that cicada contemplating his next move.
Thanks for your indulgence!
