Both are working fine for me -- and a very nice image!

grgh, perhaps a transient connectivity issue? Are you behind some sort of firewall that might be blocking it?

Rik, on my computer this (very nice) image loaded very slowly, more slowly than I can ever remember in the old version of the forum.

Yeah, it's pretty slow on mine also, sometimes worse than others if I keep doing shift-F5 to force a full refresh. But I think the download speed is an issue with the server that the image lives on, at images2.imgbox.com . When I clicked to display the larger image, it came down agonizingly slowly in a new browser tab, and that path doesn't have anything to do with the forum software once the link has been clicked.

Ah, I couldn't tell that it was hosted offsite. That's good news.

Works fine in Opera. Loading is about as fast as in the older forum's version.

I like the new design, btw, congrats on the good job.

Wonderful fine and delicate detail. Any idea what the little blue bits are? Looks like residue of some kind. I was able to view the full size image with no issues.
The trouble with quick and dirty is that the dirty remains after the quick is gone.

Good eyes!

My first thought was blue pollen grains. But then when I looked closer, I saw in several places that there is a clear pattern of rainbow rings, like on the edges of an oil slick. A particularly clear example is the relatively large spot at Photoshop coordinates 660,876 in the large image.

I notice that there are similar blue spots on all parts of the thorax (dorsal, ventral, lateral) as well as on cuticle portions of the face, but no obvious spots of any color on the eyes, antennae, or mouthparts. I would speculate that's because those areas get carefully cleaned, but the cuticle between large hairs does not.

As for exactly what the stuff is or how it got there, I have no idea!

It would be interesting to know if this feature is common or even universal in this species.
