Small swarfs from a fly cutter

Post by Pizzazz »

Hi Gang

I was doing some fly cutting on a 1/2 inch piece of maple plywood and I
noticed some very small swarfs that had color in them. I decided to take
a closer look through my rig. The pink color is actually from one of the
plys.

I shot 140 shots with my Mitty 7.5 objective at 15 micron steps.

I have included several "normal" shots to illustrate what I discovered.

How many times have we all drilled or cut a piece of wood or metal, and passed by the beauty of a closeup.

Very nice shot and good to see from where it came from.

Hello

Yes we can overlook quite a lot.
As I I was cutting I noticed these flaky
bits flying off the cutter head and thought
this is interesting because of their shape they
actually come off looking like an accordion bellows

Good spot! I was wondering if it was the glue, but turnings from a wood lathe can be pretty too.

Very nice. I am relieved to find that the "fly cutter" is cutting wood, not flies; I had read the title and imagined someone slicing up flies with a dedicated fly cutting machine to dissect out the special "swarf" organs, which is admittedly an odd name for a fly organ...
