I've seen a lot of spiders, but never one like this. The "feather-hair" is remarkable and beautifully rendered. Nice work!

Very nice image!

The feathered hairs are surprisingly common, but they're very difficult to make out except with high resolution photo setups. My first encounter with the things was in photographing a pedipalp, HERE, with feedback from a spider expert HERE. You can see and read more about the hairs at http://www.photomacrography.net/forum/v ... hp?t=21438 and by following the links therein.

Wow ! Good clarity on those crazy feather hairs, never seen them before. Do you know what type of spider it is ?

Hello Andy,
I have already taken some photographs of the spiders which I have found at home but no one has had such hair.

e.g. (with NIKON CFI BE Plan 4x)
Image

But this one with the crazy feather hairs I have found in the garage (crazy because of the exhaust gas pollution ?)

I'm no spiderist but the last one I looked at had hairs of similar shape, though on its legs, not around the eyes. It was a running crab spider - philodromus sp.

Hello Chris,
The name of my spider is: barn funnel weaver (Tegenaria domestica).
(With a little bit crazy hair because of the exhaust gases of my beamer :-)

An excellent image, wonderful :)
The second one looks like Pholcus. Is that so?
I'm not sure where it's from but if in the UK (which I think might be an introduction from the US) it's Pholcus phallangoides. Could be something different though.
