” I suppose you are an entomologist ? “
” Not quite so ambitious as that, sir. I should like to put my eyes on the individual entitled to that name.
No man can be truly called an entomologist,
sir; the subject is too vast for any single human intelligence to grasp.”

A seed pod, but still searching for an ID.....
I often saw them and wondered where they came from.
Had them under the stereo a couple of times, about 4mm I guess.
EDIT: your 'myth explode' post gave away the size: slightly lager than 3mm.
EDIT 2: Is it the seed pod from a Birch?

I was thinking someone may have thought an insect; it does have wings and antennae!
Yes, it's from a White Birch, Betula papyrifera (also known as Paper Birch and Canoe Birch).
From "Trees in Canada" "Each fruit a small flat 1-seeded 2-winged nutlet (often erroneously called a seed), .... and bearing 2 withered thread-like stigmas at the tip."

Gah, missed this, I would have got this one! (well not the species!)
I shook some out from a ripe seedhead a couple of months ago from the silver birch in our garden
