Hi Jody,

an impressive stack.
I think that is an aperture of f 2.8
squandered potential of sharpness.
I had set a list in the thread.
Experienced photographers who use this list
and has proven for me too.
The exposure is very good.
2 Seconds will protect you as you can see well from vibration
through the Cap, well done.
The background is me here too colorful.
I would maybe a discreet blue or even
Try black.
I tend rather to darker backgrounds,
as I found out,
at least with a microscope lens,
a light background creates a kind of grazing.
In some dark black areas of the Wasp, I would still
trying to darken anything by a retouching.
Jody as a whole a very good stack.
Please tell me if such such comments on my part
are not desirable.
You can read tips on the Stackshot again here:

Jody,

Nice stack! I happen to like the colored background.

I don't understand Michael's concern about f/2.8. For me, at 5X, f/2.8 is the sharpest setting for my MP-E. This gives an effective aperture about f/16.8, just about ideal for the 1D Mark III's full frame sensor.

Hi Rik,

other great photographers that use the MP-E with full frame sensor,
have an aperture of 3.5-4.5 advised I with a 5: 1
to use.
This corresponds to an actual aperture of 21-27 then.
I've tried it and had a very good sharpness.
There are my experience,
they are not necessarily a scale but only one piece of advice.
Well, shoot brings new
Surprises. :-k

Greetings

Michael

The metallic appearance (and implied size) suggest that it is a chalcidoid but wing venation would give more indication.

By direct test, my MP-E is sharpest wide open. See HERE for the images.

Other samples of the lens may be different.

Have you tested at f/2.8 and seen that f/3.5-4.5 is sharper with yours?

Hi Rik,

I had already written that I am using the aperture setting the best
sharpness impression can reach.
I have used me at that time that apart.
There were many different information on the Internet.
How is 2.8 - 6.3 etc.
Then I asked a very experienced photographer,
he gave me his settings.
I can only say that I work best with these settings.
You're also an experienced very good photographer, and I would like to convince you otherwise.
I respect you for it, to very.
I get around but the best 3.5 - 4.5.

Greetings

Michael

I also like the colored background and the very good image.

The Canon EOS 1D Mark III has no full frame sensor, it has a 10.1 megapixel APS-H sensor (28.1x18.7mm) and a crop factor of 1.3. With it's fast burst mode 10fps and low noise it was a choice for many professional nature, sport and press photographers. In 2009 it was replaced by EOS -1D Mark IV also with an APS-H sensor.

The Canon EOS 1Ds Mark III was the 21.1 megapixel full frame version and was a choice for many professional studio photograhers.

Today the professional flagship camera is the full frame Canon EOS-1D X.

Regards,
Conny

Thanks for the catch on sensor size. I was looking at specs for the EOS 1Ds Mark III.
