Ribes flower macros

Post by lauriek »

Here are a couple of shots of a Ribes flower which is from a bush growing at the base of a tree next to the road outside my house...

Stamen just starting to peek open. A few minutes later this has become a massive blob of pollen!

Image

25 slices with Nikon CF N 10x/0.30 objective (at a bit less than 10x mag)

and a blob, don't know what this is but the outside of the flowers have a lot of these little mushroomy things on them. It's not /fantastic/ but I do find stacking at 40x quite difficult still!

92 slices with Nikon CF M 40x/0.50 ELWD

wow, I dream of a frame filler like this mag.

Pretty sure it's a trichome, lots of sticky bug catching plants like the sundew have them but this one is pretty small

Thanks for the comments! And the info (goes off googling trichome!)

I don't imagine these are used in the same way as in sundews, I guess they serve some other purpose...

Very nice shots Laurie. I have been waiting for spring to come here, to get something to shoot, but then it snowed again last week, and now they are calling for more snow tonight. Not a single crocus has even shown up here.

Thanks chaps!

Mitch, it's not great here, the weather did start to pick up, I've now seen an ant and a fly! However last few days it's started to get quite cold and windy again, virtually nothing is flowering here apart from this Ribes and some prunus blossom.

Yeah, they have lots of uses, probably multiple on the same plant, like collecting pollen etc
