A grain of sand

Post by soldevilla »

More than 10 years ago a friend gave me a small amount of sand (!) and told me that I observe the sand under a microscope. Wonderful! what looked like sand was in fact small fossils!
Now I've recovered from that sample, and I shot a "grain of sand. " The size is about 0.5 mm

This is quite a striking microfossil. I love the color of the microfossil and I also like the foreground reflection and the treatment of the background. This is a fine image.

Very nice!
I think this is a Foraminifera sell, not sure if it's a fossil or a living specie, those shelled protozoarians are very common today and an important component in a lot of marine beach sands and other sediments.

Sands under the microscope are often very interesting and surprising beautiful.

How did you light this? Purple gel and black tile perhaps?

Striking image, do the grains all look the same?

Lovely image and nice lighting too.
Objects look amazing when blow up large so we can see the detail.

not, obviously :D at this size, the background is photoshop... The background is a little trick to fool the eye and the feeling of size.
