Charles, I enjoyed this one and the "Mantis foreleg" too! I've also tried MP-E for high magnification stacking, and found f/2.8 the best. Although I had to do more shots of course.

Charles is incredible. How clean are your photos. Seems that you have polished the surface of the claw. The perfect light, composition. a delight to see your photos.

The detail in this shot is simply stunning. Weevils have the most amazing feet.

I think this might be a case of engaging brain before opening mouth... but what does MPE (Canon 64mm MPE) stand for?

I didnt know the MPE 65 could still be that sharp at 5x... good to know!

Was this shot with continuous light? How was the diffusion?
Sort of a combination. The subject was illuminated with electronic flash. Basically a 1/2 cylinder of Lee diffusion filter over the top with a flash hitting the surface. A piece of what paper was placed just under the subject to provide some fill and to define the claws. A long exposure was used and a dim continuous light was directed to the wall a couple feet behind the subject Since this light was much "warmer" than the flash it produced a reddish color background.
