EL-Nikkor 63mm Single-shot Fly

Post by Tesselator »

These aren't very good. I didn't spend much time trying to make them look all cool and stuff. I was just trying to see how much in focus area i could get with the EL-Nikkor 63mm stopped all the way down to F/16 - as opposed to stacking many shallower shots. Two light sources were used; a white LED (which after balancing looks very blue) and tungsten halogen which is of course rather yellow usually. Here's what came out:

Of course these look much better at 100% but these give the basic idea. The strange orangish crystals on he back is instant coffee which I thought I had washed all off with isopropanol but I guess I missed some. I was keeping him in an unwashed coffee jar, see. :)

You can't white balance mixed lighting. The only way is to use a filter over one light to bring it to the same colour temperature as the other and then set white balance. You can get colour balancing gels for this.

But I guess you knew that already.

Yeah, I was actually trying for the two-toned look. I think it makes it interesting. I didn't however know that the USB LED keyboard light was going to be THAT blue. :D It's a little much. :P Oh-well. :)

Thanks for the links though! Cool stuff!
