Too Small, Too Big - Ichneumon Wasp

Post by AlP »

Sometimes I come across a specimen that is too small for 5x and sometimes too big for 8x. I could use a 1.4 extender with the Canon MPE-65mm and bring it up to 7x or use extension tubes to bring it up to 6x. I thought I'd try reducing the tube length from 250mm (recommended for the Zeiss 10x infinity) down to between 135 and 200mm (no marking for 150mm) on the Sigma 70 - 300mm lens. I guesstimate I would be around 167mm tube length with an effective magnification of about 6.7x. The combo had a slight vignetting which was acceptable to me with a Canon 30D (1.6 crop factor camera). My thought process could be way off base, sorry for babbling...
