European Blue Mason Bees

Post by Dalantech »

My Mason bees have been hatching off an on for the last two weeks. Seems like the weather cannot make up its mind and we have had a few false springs. Unfortunately I have not had much time lately, but I did manage to get a couple of shots. ech Specs: Canon 90D (F11, 1/125, ISO 200) + a Canon MP-E 65mm macro lens (set to 2x) + a diffused MT-26EX-RT, E-TTL metering, -2/3 FEC. This is a single, slightly cropped, frame taken hand held. In post I used Topaz Denoise AI and Clarity in that order. Shutter and ISO set to expose the sky in the background.

First the male. He was either emerging from a reed or he has been camping out in it:

Here's the female. If you look real close at her face you can see why the common name is Blue Mason. She also has a blue abdomen:

Striking and very well-lit images, which succeed both visually and informatively. Well done!
