My Toughest Macro Shoot 2021

Post by AlP »

This was my hardest macro shoot this year, luckily it was outside my back door. A stink bug laid some eggs on our gazebo screen June 2. It is very flexible. The slightest breeze causes it to move (bad for macro). Each square on the screen is 1.5mm.

By June 15 the eggs started getting some colour.

On the morning of June 20, the first hatchlings started appearing. Of course, so does a slight breeze, necessitating a stable background to hold the screen steady and flat as possible. Due to proximity of the screen to the end of the lens I had to toss a twin macro light in favor of a ring light. On the bad side I missed any hatchlings coming out of an egg.

Fist and second instars with the black side of a scrap piece of mat board.

Lets flip the mat board over to the white side and do a mechanical stack of 7 steps at 3x.

For a finale, a 5x of a 2nd instar after coming out. Not a good or great image but an image nevertheless.

I think I just successfully did my first multi image posting.

Very cool! I have been thinking of a stacked stop motion clip of eggs for a while, will have to find them first :D

A nice set! I really like their little faces pressed inside the eggs shortly before the hatch.

Thanx, Mark. I never thought or even considered their little faces looking at me from in the eggs. Now I see it. You made my day.
