This young (Carolina?) mantis was waiting on the painted brick wall of my house. It was pretty tolerant of my close approach, and maintained this somewhat pensive pose for a sufficient time to get a 24 shot in-camera set to stack. Getting the exposure right for the subject pretty much blew out the white of the bricks, an effect that seemed pleasing to me. Nevertheless, extensive cleaning was needed and the image was aggressively cropped. Following our brief engagement, I moved it and a nearby friend to a better hunting ground away from the house.

The interesting thing about mantids for me is that they are seriously watching you when you are shooting them.
