Pear Blossom In A Different Light

Post by Harold Gough »

This is just to show classic flower photography technique.

Much has been said in this forum about the merrits of diffused flash. Colour photography of flowers, for publication anyway, requires saturated colours and controlled highlights. Diffusion dose the job nicely*. These were in broken bright sunlight, the second with collapsable diffuser disk interposed. This was held in one hand, leaving only one hand to hold and operate the camera. These are not the sharpest possible images but they illustrate the point adequately for evenness of lighting: colour will be covered in further posts:

* The alternative is to use overcast weather for photographing plants. The happiest a specialist plant photographer can be is when the weather is dull and wet with the first rays of sun breaking through thin cloud to softly illuminate the plants of interest.
