Collembola

Post by Patrick Stahel »

Observing snail eggs through an old Olympus stereo microscope this little fellow walked through the scene. I took a short video through the eyepiece with my phone. Besides the artifacts through the necessary zoom in the phone app I was surprised how it came out.

For those interested the short video can be found here: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/61565vfl ... hqfo8&dl=0

Wonderful, looks like Neanura muscorum, quite common under rotting wood etc. The videos are excellent, these move quite quickly when magnified and I find it's not always easy to follow them with the camera.

Yes, i had to cut most of the video out. I was handholding the phone and most of the video is shaky. Thank you for determining the species. I know what springtails are but don't have any further knowledge about it.

I have in the past rescued shaky video footage by using DaVinci Resolve, I cannot remember exactly how now but it was one simple setting that almost entirely removed the shaking, best bit is it's free to download and use. Might be worth a look/try.
